Ever since cave paintings, art has been a language that we need to communicate the human condition. While what we choose to say is subjective, the ability to say it is not.
I meet each student where they are and bring them closer to artistic fluency.
I am ilan Laks, an artist and art teacher with over thirty years of professional experience.
I teach Middle and High School Art at Pacific Crest here in Portland and privately at my Studio.
My first art teaching job was way back in the nineties at Atherton High in California. I have been teaching art as a part of my art practice ever since.
I have taught in elementary schools, high schools, camps, and college level. I have taught team building art classes for many groups of adults.
I started AudioCinema in 2005, and Robertson Art Space in 2015.
I teach a studio art class. I teach students how to create what they see, what they think, and what they feel, and how to combine those elements.
I work with each student to come up with an idea, we then use the space and materials in the studio to best execute the project.
Projects can take one, a few, or many sessions to complete. These projects include painting, drawing, portraits, sculpture, puppets, miniatures, and stop motion character creation.
I break down the object to its basic parts and we build it back up. I teach them new ways to look at, execute, and produce art.
I have attained a level of fluency in studio arts, and I am able to teach what I know.
